What people phone us about
If one of these sounds like your week, you already know what the job is. Read what we do about it, then call.
DStv & signal
- “No signal, error E48-32”
- Nine times out of ten the dish has drifted off the satellite, or water has got into the LNB. We re-align on a signal meter and seal it so it stays put.
- “Picture freezes when the weather turns”
- That is a marginal signal that only just worked on install day. We check dish size, LNB and cable runs, then set it up with headroom for Cape weather.
- “I want a second or third TV connected”
- Extra View or an additional point off the same dish, with the cable run properly rather than draped through a window.
- “We are moving house”
- Dish taken down, remounted and re-aligned at the new address, decoder re-paired and tested on every point before we leave.
- “The dish has come loose or the bracket has rusted”
- Remounted on a sound bracket, bolted into something that will hold, cable clipped back and the entry point sealed.
CCTV & cameras
- “My cameras are offline on my phone”
- Usually a router change, an app or port setting, or a failed power supply. We find which, fix it, and test it on your handset before we pack up.
- “I cannot make out faces at night”
- Wrong camera, wrong height, or wrong angle. We re-spec the lens and infrared and re-aim it at the spot that actually matters.
- “I want to watch the gate and the driveway”
- We walk the property first and mark camera positions with you, then quote. Coverage plan before drilling, every time.
- “The recorder is full or has stopped recording”
- Storage, overwrite rules and channel settings checked and set so you keep the footage you would actually need.
- “Nothing installed yet, starting from scratch”
- Full system: cameras, recorder, cabling, power and remote viewing on your phone, planned around your property.
Not on the list? It is still probably something we fix every week.

Straight answers
How many cameras do I actually need?
Fewer than most people are sold. What matters is covering the ways onto the property: the gate, the driveway, the front door and the back yard. We walk the property with you and mark the positions before quoting, so you pay for coverage rather than for a camera count.
Will I be able to watch the cameras on my phone?
Yes, and we set it up and test it on your handset before we leave rather than emailing you an app link afterwards. If your router or fibre changes later, that is usually the reason cameras drop off, and it is a quick fix.
Do the cameras work in load shedding?
Only if they are backed up. The cameras and the recorder both need power, and so does your router if you want to view them remotely. We can put the system on a small UPS so it keeps recording through a slot, and we will tell you what that adds to the quote.
Can you add to a system I already have?
Usually yes. If the existing recorder has spare channels and the cabling is sound, adding cameras is straightforward. If it is an old analogue system at the end of its life, we will say so rather than selling you cameras that will not help.
How much footage does it keep?
That depends on the hard drive, the number of cameras and the resolution. We set the recorder to keep a sensible window, normally two to four weeks, and set overwrite so it never silently stops recording when it fills up.
